Having served as a residence as well as a godown for gambier, biscuits and other commodities, the old Riverhouse is imbibed with history, memories and soul. Flanked by towering terracotta warriors, the entrance The Forbidden City is akin to that of an ancient Chinese Emperor's opulent abode. The interior impresses effortlessly with its elegant blend of old-world oriental charm and modern sophistication.

Venue Decor

The middle of Restaurant Madame Butterfly is in the traditional style of Chinese houses with two voids flanked by wooden railings so guests may look down to Bar CoCoon and finally, extending beyond the back of the restaurant is a balcony that overlooks the courtyard and the garden into Clarke Quay.

Hanging on the walls of the Forbidden City are Chinese paintings, calligraphy and art from worldrenowned artists. Ming vases, Tang antiques and Qing artifacts line the shelves. The traditional furniture themselves, as well as the cutlery, are crafted by master Chinese craftsmen, making one wonder where the art galley ends, and where the restaurant begins. Silken drapes gently brush the walls and the ceiling like the soft wings of a butterfly.
